Solving Stinky Towels

I finally caved. I’ve had enough of my bathroom towels smelling funky after they’ve only been used a few times. I gathered up a bunch of our towels tonight and decided to try a widely popular remedy for towel stink. According to the internet the main cause of towel stink is caused by soap and fabric softener residue. The remedy is supposed to strip the residue from the towels, leaving them fluffy and fresh. The remedy is simple enough and only involves two household ingredients so I thought I’d give it a go. I washed our towels with only a cup of vinegar and then washed them again with a cup of baking soda.

So what’s my verdict? Well, they seem to smell clean and a few of the older towels have regained their fluffiness. I guess I will have to use one for a few days to see if it’s really done the trick. I’m a bit sceptical, but not because I think it won’t work, but because I jammed so many towels in the wash that maybe I should have doubled the recipe.
